We Need Your Union Solidarity!

Support the International #WorldAgainstRacism Day of Action on March 20 and United Against Hate's concert on March 21 by passing a resolution in your union. Here is sample text to introduce at your next union meeting:

Resolution:

[Labor] affirms its opposition to the racist far-right, and supports US events recognizing the UN Day for the Elimination of Racism, March 2021

Whereas, March 21st 2021 is the United Nations “International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination” and will be marked by marches, rallies, and on-line events in many different countries; and

Whereas, in the United Kingdom, the TUC (Trades Union Congress) is supporting an international on-line rally and coordinating trade union input into the planning of the event, deciding that “UN day events are an essential part of the trade union movements strategy to fight racism;” and

Whereas, in the United States, the last four years have seen an increase in white supremacist propaganda, hate crimes, and violent domestic extremism in the United States; and

Whereas, among the rioters at the US Capitol on January 6th were white supremacists, neo-Nazi’s and organized far-right groups such as the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys; and

Whereas, such groups continue to build, threaten immigrants, racial and other minorities and are increasingly opposing the concept of a democratic society; and

Whereas, the continued Covid-19 pandemic and related recession have increased inequality and contributed to the conditions in which racist far-right movements can grow; and

Whereas, we oppose all attempts to divide and rule working people, and affirm that racism has no place in the workplace, and unions can play an important role in challenging it; and

Whereas, in the United States, grass roots faith, community, labor, and anti-racist organizations are planning local events on Saturday March 20th, and an on-line cultural event under the umbrella of “Unite Against Hate” and #WorldAgainstRacism on Sunday, March 21st expressing international solidarity against racism and the far-right:

We [*TRADE UNION BRANCH / ORGANIZATION] therefore resolve to support the 21 March 2021 cultural event against racism and the far right organized to coincide with worldwide events on the annual U.N. Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

We further resolve to announce these #WorldAgainstRacism events among our members / send our union banner / contribute $ [*AMOUNT] towards publicity for the activities.

We finally resolve to work with others planning for united peaceful counter-mobilizations of working people against neo-Nazi or other violent racist far-right groups should they try to spread their hate through marching in [*OUR AREA].
